A driver has been banned from races for throwing a water bottle and hitting another race driver on the track.
The incident occurred during a Women’s International Karting (WIKAT) Formula Series (FIS) race in France on Saturday.
Victorina Simonova’s sliding back after losing control of her race car is understood to have infuriated Lara Daou with Ferrari driver Simonova deeming the incident a “serious” one.
Daou retaliated by diving onto the track, retrieving Simonova’s water bottle and throwing it towards the 17-year-old as the drivers rolled onto the grass.
Simonova took the interference in her stride and took control of the race in her Acaba Racing car.
Simonova may find her petulance costing her in the future, with French Karting bosses reviewing her conduct.
A French Sport Federation statement said: “As a matter of principle, the French Federation of Sport strongly rejects any negative encounters in the sport.
“Karting, once again, saw a character out of control, behaving in an unacceptable manner that constitutes a threat to the safety of other race cars.
“The French Federation and the French Federation of Sport of Etoile du Sport will together discuss the issue with Victorina Simonova and take decisive measures in case of any violation of the rules of the sport.”
