AUSTIN, Texas — A 29-year-old East Texas man was arrested early Wednesday in the deaths of his 20-year-old sister and her 20-year-old boyfriend, police said.
Christopher Guy Tike, was charged in the deaths of Shaquelle Ann Tike and her boyfriend, Keith Curtis Jones, of Midland. Both were shot and left inside a van just after midnight on Tuesday, said Bedford police Lt. Jerry Gallegos.
The victims were discovered near each other in the back of a vehicle by a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper. The motive remains under investigation.
“I think the suspect used the two victims at the time as a shield,” Gallegos said. “The suspect was getting ready to do something else, and he shot and killed them.”
Authorities identified the suspect as Tike’s brother, 28-year-old Christopher Tike. He had a criminal record that included charges of assault and making terroristic threats, authorities said.
“He’s one of the most violent people I’ve ever known,” said Franklin Place, a relative of the couple. “He must have been convinced that Shaquelle and Keith wouldn’t do anything. He obviously gave that little bit of reason for them to do something because they would’ve died and nobody would’ve know what happened.”
Gallegos said it was not clear whether the suspect intended to flee the state or not before being stopped by the trooper, who was patrolling in the rural area near the Arkansas state line.
